TABUA and his Friend the Delphin Ono
Leseprobe aus TABUA

After they had been on their way for some hours, they could see a small white horse on the sea in which something was moving to and fro desperately. When they came nearer they saw the head of a dolphin. What had happened? That dolphin was in danger. The two friends immediately realized what the situation was like. Quickly they rowed their boat closer to the incident. What a dreadful cruelty? The dolphin had been caught in a net stretching out for kilometres and that had kept in captivity everything that had got into it. The dolphin fought for his life. Probably he had tried to catch a fish and had got caught in this deadly trap.

It seemed that the dolphin would not keep up to withstand for long. He had to die miserably. Tabua hastened to cut the dolphin out of the net. One part the dolphin’s fin had already been torn. Tabua spoke to the dolphin in a low and gentle voice, but the animal continued to fight a desperate battle for freedom. Tabua had to try to calm him down. He began to sing a song that his mother had sung to him once, whenever he had hurt himself at playing games. The dolphin calmed down and looked at the young man as if imploring to get freed. The dolphin seemed to understand Tabua. Step by step Tabua succeeded in getting him out of the tricky, difficult and almost deadly situation, while Matiu helped to keep the boat in proper balance.
